As I recently relocated my nest, I found myself thinking about my workspace and how it impacts my productivity, creativity and work-flow. This led to thoughts about how our workspaces, to a degree, reflect who we are. For instance mine would tell you that I really like teal, markers, asymmetry, textures and clean lines. What does your space say about you? Have you thought about it?
Obviously, the biggest part of our workspace are the desks we work on. So, today I’m presenting my round up of unique, statement-making desks. Ranging from prototypes to DIY projects there’s bound to be something that sparks your interest.

I haven’t thought about how practical this curved touch screen desk is, but, it’s oh so cool! The BendDesk is definitely just a prototype right now. I have a suspicion that’s where it’ll stay… a cool DIY for those gifted enough to know how to make something like this work.

I am definitely digging this sleek modern desk from Milk. Come on, it’s got a spot for a fish tank! It also features multiple storage areas and is height adjustable. This beaut will run ya $2,300 – 5,500US… not exactly in the budget.

Here’s a cool sleek design from Karim Rashid. It’s made from acrylic and painted MDF, and available in many colour combinations. I couldn’t find a price online, which means only one thing… not available/affordable for the average person. That’s ok, it’s still pretty to look at!

This desk designed by Hsien Chang on first glance looks really cool. The dividers move around like a puzzle making it easy to see what is kept in the desk. But I have a feeling that it would start to get frustrating because you’d have to keep moving your stuff around in order to move the dividers around. Hmm… it’s a prototype I believe, so perhaps they’re working on it. Oh, and maybe they should think about switching the pink out for teal? ![]()

Now this shelf-desk-all-in-one I love! Perfect for a small space or someone that loves clean lines and efficient use of space (ie. me). Oh, and who doesn’t love a bit of bamboo! Sustainable and elegant, a sweet combination. Again, this one is in project development. ![]()

Now, this desk from MotoArt makes the list simply because it’s so unique and made from recycled plane parts! They have others made from wings, rudders and flaps.

This desk has inspired me since the moment I saw it. How perfect for a library! I’m not sure what kind of books they are, maybe duplicates, damaged, or ones no one wants to read? What makes it even better is that someone thought to lay the books by colour. It makes for a really great effect. Love it!

This desk, well, isn’t really a desk… it’s a series of shelves. A tonne of storage space and totally doable. If you love the look, give it a try. More pics and information here.

I absolutely love this DIY. All these great old coffee tables and desks re-purposed into a great unusual workspace and a beautiful work of art.
I hope I’ve managed to inspire a few of you. Inspireling out!

Very inspirational! I particularily like the last one. I have been struggling with what kind of home office to create. Now off to the flea market!
The books used in the library desk are manyhanded books from a secondhand bookshop, that would otherwise be recycled in (toilet)paper or what so ever.
Now they got a second life as desk!
